Printing HDR Images

Post by garyros on 2009-03-23, 09:28

Good day All.

I have been trying to move my images from looking very nice on the screen to incredible on inkjet paper. I own a Canon Pixma Pro 9500. I have tried a variety of papers. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what would look and feel right for HDR?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have had good luck printing mine as I wanted/expected. Glossy paper, calibrate your monitor, profile for your printer, match your computer/monitor/printer profiles, print in a color space that covers your gamut, and reduce the range of EV in your final output "HDR" so that your paper/printer combination can reproduce it.
If you final proof on PS, you'll want those little red bars at the bottom to only cover about 5 sections probably.
Print test strips with notes as to what you changed in each, then pick the real world best one.
I use an Epson R1900, and use the 16bit printing mode when trying to print my "HDR" images.

I cannot attest to this personally, but I have heard a lot of people really like the look of HDR on metallic paper. It is available in silver and gold, but many are only compatible with certain inks sets.
