I'm a creationist

Post by SpiffyPix on 2009-01-21, 15:07

I love creating unusual HDR images. People might look at an unaltered image of mine and say, "Eh, nice picture." But once I create my impressionistic version of an HDR photo, people definitely take a closer look at the photo. Here's one of my favorites:

Nice image, i like both but if pushed would have to go down the purist route as i am starting to tire slightly of the lucis / Topaz over processed images.

Awesome photo! Love it. I'm going to make an image to add to the tutorial so that people are able to post easier.

Thanks for the compliment, and thanks for imbedding the image for me. Don't know what i was doing wrong, but just couldn't get it. I tried uploading the image and posting the url. Pretty sure i used the right buttons.
Hope this site is a success, and I will do whatever I can to help out!!!
I am tiring of the Lucis/topaz look also.. It seems we all get carried away with new techniques-then after awhile, back a bit..
I can remember way back when, I began using gaussian blur for portraits and used it all of the time.. Now-- I can't stand it!!!
Same with boosting contrast-- don't do as much as I used to.. Same with oversharpening. Now I selectively sharpen and try not to go overboard. Guess it is all part of the process of learning.

Two very nice examples, Spiffy do you add Lucis or no?
Buzzman what Topaz product did you use in your photo? excellent photo
Here is one of only a few I did, I have a halo around the bridge, How do you advoid the halo and still get this look? Its been so long I cant even remember what I did to achieve this look tongue But now for sure I will do a few more!

I used topaz adjust,, but the overall effect came more from the tonemapping and a slight hue adjustment.(hue saturation) Topaz just had a subtle effect.
Halos come from high contrast edges like in trees and sky. Make a more subtle version-- Use modest adjustments til just before it starts to halo. -- then blend it with the halo-ed version. Do this by putting the subdued version on a new layer-- make a mask-make mask black-then paint with white where the halo is. You can also try cloning in the edges-- but that can turn into a lot of work!!

Wow, I love that bridge!

I've never used Lucis before, but I'd like to. Too expensive. I use photomatix.

It would be great if you started a discussion regarding Topaz & LucisArt in the technique area. I started a new 'software' category. I'll start one for Photomatix.

And everyone, don't be afraid to start your own thread in the 'creationist' or 'purist' thread. That way everyone gets their own well-deserved attention! Just click 'NEW TOPIC.'

And again, Great job on that bridge!

I too love the old beat down trucks / cars... Here is one of my favorites...
A wide angle lens helps with something big in the foreground like a rusty bumper..

Hope you like

Here is one I took of a local bridge outside of Sacramento in the Sierra foothills.

I love how the sky just 'makes" the image (to me).

And I really like how the reflections came out in the windows of this ship...

And just one more, this is my all time favorite, It reminds me of a Monet painting so much I even had it printed on canvas, stunning, wish you could see it... no one believes it's a photograph... Got to love HDR... thanks for your time
